EQ

1.   I reviewed the rule of three for writing an EQ.

Essential Question
Once a topic is chosen, the student will develop a working essential question.  The purpose of the working essential question is to help the student build a strong foundation of research which will allow him or her to create an essential question that encourages depth and rigor in the chosen topic.  An essential question must:

  • Provide a framework for studies (It calls for breadth and depth of research, Is not a yes/no question)
  • Take a stance (It allows you to argue some point, Cannot be a recitation of facts or a list)
  •  Format (It is specific, The wording makes sense)
2.  Review the following EQs and
  • Tell us if each meets the rule of three.
  • Tell why they do or don't.
 a.  What is the most important factor in healthy weight loss?
Yes because it's more of an opinion kind of question.
 b.  What is most important to securing a conviction in a criminal investigation?

      No because it's worded weird.
 c.  What is most important in creating a hairstyle that best satisfies a customer?

No because you can't really research this.
 d.  How can an anesthesiologist best treat chronic pain?
Yes because you can take a stance on this.

3.  Based on your review of the rule of 3 and your experience with assessing four EQs, please write another draft EQ for your senior project.  The senior team will be meeting with students shortly for EQ revision and approval; you are expected to bring your research notebook to that meeting with your EQ draft written inside in pencil.

Lesson 1 Reflection

1. Positive Statement
What are you most proud of in your Lesson 1 Presentation and why?

I was most proud of my lesson plan. It was nicely organized. I had even added notes on what I wanted to talk about under the topic.

2. Questions to Consider

a.     What assessment would you give yourself on your Lesson 1 Presentation (self-assessment)?
AE       P          AP       CR       NC

b.     Explain why you deserve that grade using evidence from the Lesson 1 component contract.
I think I deserve a P because even though I got frazzled during the presentation I feel like I hit all the points I wanted to talk about, had my prop, referenced all my sources, made time, and turned both the rough draft and final lesson plan on time.

3. What worked for you in your Lesson 1?
I feel like my hook really worked for me. It was a good transition to what I was going to talk about.

4.  (What didn't work) If you had a time machine, what would you have done differently to improve your Lesson 1?

I wish I would have put down key words along with my key points because when I got frazzled I couldn't think of the proper words.

Extra Blog Post: October

This month at the pharmacy wasn't very exciting. I did get to do two new things. The first new thing I did was write down all the orders we were sending out to the retirement home. What I had to do was write down all the prescription number that were leaving the store. The second new thing I was able to do was call our patients. I had three different patients to call to ask them when they would be home because we were delivering their medication and we needed to make sure that they were going to be home to sign it off. I also interviewed my mentor this month. I got to learn more about her journey becoming a pharmacist.

Extra Blog Post: September

This month was very eventful! We got flu shots in stock. The pharmacy students that Joanne is working with learned how to give shots. It was cool to see them learn how to do it because hopefully in a few years I'll be in their shoes. In this picture, Cathy, one of the pharmacy students, is giving me a fake shot. They posted this picture to the pharmacy's Instagram to get the word out.

Blog 5: Mentorship Reflection

1. Mentorship question: Describe your experience in how you found your mentorship? If you haven't found one yet, describe your experience so far in the search of a mentor.
Finding my mentor was easier than I thought it would be. I had told my mom what my idea was for my senior project and she told me that a mom from my little sister’s class was a pharmacist and she just opened her own pharmacy. Her name is Joanne. My mom told me that she would talk to Joanne and let me know. A week or two passed by and mom forgot to talk to her. My old school has a carnival every year and the parents have to work some of the booths. The eve of the carnival we were at my old school passing out packets for the parents that were working. My mom starts talking to one of the moms from the school about my project and she suggested I go talk to Joanne. She told me that she would introduce me to her the next day during the carnival. The next day I went with her and she introduced me to Joanne. I told her about my project and she said she’d love to help me.

 2. Research question: What has been your most important article you have read so far and why?
The most important article I’ve read was Good Medicine: The Doctor and Pharmacist Team. I found it very important because I learned how if a doctor and pharmacist work closely together it would improve patient care.

Extra Blog Post: August

Ever since the first week of summer, I've been going twice a week to the pharmacy. Within a week and a half, I had already completed my 10 hours. I could have stopped going but I loved it so much I continued throughout the summer. I feel like I've done almost everything a Pharm Tech does. Lately I've just been organizing, double checking, and filing paperwork since both my mentor & I have been vacationing off and on. I can't wait to see what the rest of the year has to bring.

Blog 2: Summer Mentorship Component

Literal:

2. What is the contact name & number of where you volunteered?
My mentor is Joanne Evans. She owns her own pharmacy called Phillips Ranch Pharmacy. The phone number is (909) 766-8330.
3. What questions were raised because of the 10 hours of experience?  List them.
About how long will it take to a pharmacist?
Is it better to own your our pharmacy?
Do all pharmacies take care of retirement home orders?

Interpretive:

4. What is the most important thing you gained from this experience? Why?
One of the most important things I gained from this experience was what goes on behind the counter. I learned the whole process from when we get the prescription to when we send it out. I never knew how much time they actually spend communicating with insurances.

Applied:

5. What is your senior project topic going to be?  How did what you did help you choose a topic?  Please explain.

My senior topic is going to be pharmacy. I chose this topic because of our collage to career portfolio. It was my number one career choices. I didn’t know much about what they did besides I had researched. I thought by doing my summer mentorship there I would a good idea of what to expect when or if I become a pharmacist. After my first week, I loved it. My favorite part about working at the pharmacy is that we know our patients very well. We have a very friendly yet professional relationship with our patients.

3.    What has the most important part of the senior project based on what you are seeing in the 2-hour presentations?

The topic I’m considering doing is Pharmacy. I’m considering doing this because as of right now I want to become a pharmacist. By choosing this topic, I will experience what it’s like as a pharmacist.

My mentor is Mrs. Joanne Evans. She owns her own pharmacy. For my summer mentorship, I will be helping her out with her pharmacy.
